Martin Toft - Australia
In the summer of 2018, we were three friends who finally realized an adventure together and the choice had fallen on a trip to Darwin Australia with seven hunting days, a little fishing and prioritizing a few extra days of relaxation and fun by the pool at the hotel in Darwin.
Our Guide Tim was ready to receive us at the Adelaide River Inn approx. 100 km south of Darwin where we were to stay for the next seven days. The motel was very close to the hunting area and served perfectly as our base for the impending little adventure.
Every morning before sunrise we were picked up and driven out in hunting territory for the desired game species that Australia is so rich in. First priority with us all was a water buffalo, but it was really the particular combination of many different game species in a few days which had lured us to Australia.
In Australia, people are constantly reminded of the fire danger and fortunately the fire danger was only "servers" while we were there☺ Which no one seems to take special notice of, as it is obviously very normal for the season down there.
The hunt takes place by picking up at the motel every morning before sunrise and after a short drive you are in the hunting area and the hunt is on. The hunt consists of equal parts spotting for game from the vehicles when driving between the areas as spot and stalk with diligent use of the binoculars when walking in the bush. The hunt does not make special demands on the physique and is not comparable to a mountain hunt or the like, but is still very fascinating because you can hunt different species such as water buffalo, wild boar, crocodiles, kangaroos, Walli bies, wild horses, donkeys etc. Yes even camels in certain areas.
We all three got our water buffalo with this trip's biggest water buffalo for Claus on one of the last hunting days down there. A really nice 100 point water buffalo which is being main mounted and will surely bring back many good memories every time the gaze falls on it.
The nature "down under" was just as fantastic as we had hoped for and the professional hunting organization with Tim at the helm made sure that we all had seven really good hunting days at the Adelaide River.
Rich in good hunting experiences, we then went on and we had chosen to spice up the trip with good fishing experiences after the area famous Barramundi and the, if possible, even more aggressive species Saratoga. Both species which are very territorial and attack everything that comes near their stand.
We can warmly recommend supplementing the hunting days with a little fishing, as you experience the Australian nature in another also fascinating way from a boat in the river.
Thank you for a terrific trip and the many fond memories.
